We had a blast celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with you this past weekend! Between the green beer, Hazy IPA and milk stout releases, bangers, live music, oysters, and artisans, there were a lot of happy people around here. Sometimes we have to pinch ourselves to remember this is not all a dream! Thank you for filling up our taproom, spreading the news about our amazing beer, and most importantly, making our taproom a community gathering place. Let’s keep the party going! Read on to learn about our new and upcoming beers, and what’s going on in the taproom this week.
Beer, Beer and More Beer
What’s New on Tap
Hazy Riwa-a-a-ka – Your server won’t know what you’re ordering if you don’t pronounce it right. There are a few options for malt base and yeast strain in a Hazy IPA. We’re calling this base “thicc boi” for the use of oat malt and British yeast which puts it on the opaque and creamy side. We threw New Zealand Riwaka hops in this one which delivered some funky NZ terroir and lemon-lime notes. Get down with the sickness 6.7% ABV
Yellow Submarine Hazy IPA – We all live in a yellow submarine cruising through a sea of Hazy IPAs and this is a damn good one. We went all Citra for those looking for juice. Made with our ‘thicc boi’ base of oat malt and British yeast for an opaque and creamy base. We’ll eventually stop making hazies when I’m 64. 7.6% ABV
Jelly Boi Hazy IPA – It’s ya boiiii! It’s Jelly Boi! We don’t remember why but one morning the brewers called this beer Jelly Boi and it stuck. Five hop additions on brew day (even in the mash) and dry hopped four times at different temperatures. Simcoe, Chinook, Azacca, Strata, Mosaic and Citra hops. With a drier ferment from German ale yeast and higher IBU than our thicc boi hazies, this one has some West Coast qualities but still uses techniques to soften the edges to keep it balanced. We promise, it does NOT taste like jelly. 7% ABV
No Lucks Given Milk Stout – We have yet to find the pot of gold under the rainbow, but luck did shine upon us with this milk stout. Robust nose with chocolate and coffee notes. On the palate, you will get a touch of sweetness with a nice balance of chocolate and coffee. 5.2% ABV
What’s in the Barrels
Friendship Tunnel Hazy Pale – We want this pale ale to be as easy as a good friendship. No boiled hops keeps those pesky IBUs low. Dry hopped with crowd friendly citrus/tropical Citra and NZ Nectaron hops. Lower ABV keeps conversations from getting too serious and breaking the friendship tunnel. 5.5%
A new sour, Hefeweizen and brown ale are also in the works; stay tuned for more info coming soon!

AFE Awareness Day is held once a year to shine a spotlight on Amniotic Fluid Embolism, a rare, but highly deadly condition that can occur spontaneously during childbirth. Thanks to some amazing physicians at Wake Med and a plethora of blood on hand, Harmony VanGundy and her third child, Charlie, survived this rare condition. It’s no surprise that Harmony and Ian (and the entire team at Blackbird) are huge advocates for blood donation; we hope you will join our cause! Click here to sign up!
