Recent Accolades for Blackbird Brewery

Since opening our doors in 2022, we’ve always believed in a thoughtful approach to brewing and creating a space where everyone can feel at home and find their new favorite brew. Thanks to your incredible support, we’ve reached some exciting milestones this fall, and we couldn’t be prouder to share them with you.

NC Brewers Cup 2024 – Gold Medal Winner

BBB Accolades We are beyond thrilled to announce that El Rey Dorado—our hazy, juicy IPA—won Gold at the 2024 NC Brewers Cup in one of the most competitive categories of the year! Out of 81 entries in the Juicy/Hazy IPA category, El Rey Dorado (which translates to “The Golden King”) rose to the top. This brew combines the malt recipe from our popular Yellow Submarine IPA with the vibrant, candied orange flavor of El Dorado hops.

The NC Brewers Cup is the largest commercial beer competition in the Southeast, with over 900 entries this year, and we’re honored to have taken home this prestigious award.

Wake Weekly 2024 – Best of the Best

Brew Boys One of the biggest highlights of our year? Being voted second in the ‘Best Brewery in Wake County’ by the readers of Wake Weekly! We are truly humbled by this recognition. What makes it even more special is knowing it came straight from you—our incredible customers—without us even asking. Your unwavering support and love for our beers is what drives us every day. We couldn’t be more thankful to Wake Forest and the surrounding community for making this honor possible.

Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine – National Recognition

Craft Beer and Brewing MagazineOn the national stage, we’re thrilled to have several of our beers featured in Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine throughout 2024. As one of the most respected voices in the beer world, it’s an honor to have been recognized not just once, but five times, with a feature (or two) in every quarterly edition so far this year! Be sure to watch for their upcoming fourth-quarter “Best Of” series—we’re hopeful for another feature (fingers crossed!). In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek at the reviews from the first three editions:

  1. Hungry Are The Damned (Spring 2024 Edition): Highlighted for its malty richness with chocolate, coffee and coconut notes. Click here to read the full review.
  2. Apothecary Porter (Spring 2024 Edition): Commended for its depth of flavor with a nice balance between maltiness and bitterness. Click here to read the full review.
  3. Chimcoe (Summer 2024 Edition): A West Coast IPA that earned 95 points for its bold, hoppy profile with subtle fruit undertones and a dry finish. Click here to see the full review.
  4. Johann Sebastian Bock (Fall 2024 Edition): This Maibock was celebrated for its masterful blend of malt sweetness and a clean lager finish. Click here for the full review.
  5. Gorlami (Fall 2024 Edition): This Italian Pilsner was recognized for its crisp, light body with floral and herbal hop character without feeling heavy. Click here for the full review.

Paul Hutchins, one of the magazine’s lead reviewers, said it best: “We rarely see such consistency from one brewery.” We’re excited to keep bringing our best to every brew.
