Sir Walter Running is excited to announce the creation of Record Jogger Brewing Company, in partnership with Wake Forest’s Blackbird Brewery.

Ian with a friend after finishing a Sir Walter Running EventSir Walter Running is a Raleigh-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that hosts the Sir Walter Miler, Raleigh Half Marathon, Pop Up Miles, Raleigh RunDown Downhill Mile, and the Summer of Miles podcast. Blackbird Brewery is a small, artisanal craft brewery located in Wake Forest. Longtime industry veterans Ian and Harmony VanGundy opened Blackbird with the mission of elevating the craft beer experience in the Triangle and being an integral part of their community. After a decade of running in Sir Walter Running events, Ian has been eagerly awaiting the opportunity for this vision of a partnership with the local running community to come to fruition.

The first release from Record Jogger will be “Local Miler Lager,” brewed for the 10th annual Sir Walter Miler, to be held Friday, Aug. 4 at Meredith College in downtown Raleigh.

“Local Miler Lager is a balanced beer that’s lightly hopped and brewed with local malt for a subtle floral aroma and crisp taste. Our fresh local ingredients give the beer a more expressive craft character, but with the drinkability you expect from a light lager,” said Blackbird brewmaster Ian VanGundy.

“For 10 years, the Sir Walter Miler has brought the best milers in the world to Raleigh on the first Friday of August. The Sir Walter Miler was born and endures because of a local running scene that thrives on, and supports, excellence. We wanted to create a beer and brand that matched the event,” said Sir Walter Running and Record Jogger Brewing Company co-founder Pat Price.

Years in the making, the partnership is a new venture that will aim to create runner-friendly beers, without sacrificing taste or quality.

“Ian has made some of our favorite beers over the years, and his accolades speak for themselves. From medals at GABF to the World Beer Cup, we couldn’t think of a better brewer (and fellow runner) to bring this vision to life,” said Sir Walter Miler co-founder Sandy Roberts.

Beginning, Wednesday August 2nd, look for Local Miler Lager at local bottle shops and at Blackbird Brewery’s taproom, located at 3608 Rogers Branch Rd #101, Wake Forest, NC 27587 in the Wheatfield Plaza shopping center. Tasty Beverage will host a release party this Thursday, August 3rd at 5 pm with cans and beer on tap. Representatives from Record Jogger and Blackbird will be on site to answer all your burning running and beer questions.
