At Blackbird Brewery, community involvement isn’t an afterthought; it’s at the heart of everything we do. This past weekend marked an unforgettable Saint Patrick’s Day celebration, setting a new record as one of our busiest weekends to date. In spite of this chaos, we had multiple community initiatives brewing.
Baseball is For Everyone
On Saturday, we played host to the Wake Forest Wombats “Baseball is for Everyone” fundraising event to support the Town of Wake Forest’s Dream League, an organization dedicated to overseeing a baseball league tailored for children with special needs. Together, customers raised $168, matched by BBB, resulting in a total donation of $350. Romeo’s Pizza delighted guests with their delicious food and engaging games, raising additional funds for this worthy cause.
Wade Family Fund
For those of you that don’t know, our dear friend and fellow brewery owner/brewer, Dan Wade from Wooden Robot Brewery in Charlotte, NC, passed away unexpectedly last month. We recently featured two beers from Wooden Robot Brewery in our taproom with the intention of donating 100% proceeds to the Wade Family Fund. Between your donations at point-of-sale and your gusto with drinking their beer, we raised a total of $1,500 for the Wade Family Fund! Thank you for helping Wooden Robot Brewery navigate through this difficult transition. If you wish to further support the Wade family or contribute to the Wooden Robot staff you may donate to either of their GoFundMe pages: Wade Family Fund and/or Wooden Robot Staff Bereavement Fund.
Blood Connection and AFE Awareness
Because of blood donations like yours, Harmony VanGundy, co-owner of Blackbird Brewery, survived an amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) during the birth of her third child, Charlie VanGundy, 6-½ years ago. Next Wednesday, March 27th is AFE Awareness Day. As you can imagine, this cause is near and dear to the hearts of our Blackbird family. Help us celebrate this year by donating blood during our next blood drive with The Blood Connection next Tuesday, March 26th from 3-8PM. Each donation saves up to three lives AND each donor earns $10 to the AFE Foundation plus $40 in rewards! Click here to learn more about Harmony’s story. Sign up to be a hero!*
At the core of our ethos is a commitment to giving back. Whether it’s through local charity events, community initiatives, or supporting other small businesses, we’re dedicated to making a positive impact on the place we call home. Thank you for joining us in our efforts to foster a culture of compassion and camaraderie.
*Donors must be at least 16 years old (16 and 17 year-olds need a permission slip which will be available onsite), weight at least 110 pounds, have ID, and be generally in good health.
