You step through the front door and feel the soft breeze blow across the bar from the open garage. Sunshine soaks the room through the windows, the glow heightened by the lights twinkling above. As you near the bar, the hum of conversations heard from outside blends into the steady rhythm of the grooving music. People chatting about their day, catching up with friends, making memories with families. The liveliness of the moment at Blackbird Brewery kindred to a full orchestral performance playing the soundtrack of our lives.
These past three years have unfolded in moments we never could have imagined. We had a vision of the community we wanted to create when we opened our doors. However, the technicolor reality is far more vibrant and fulfilling, and that’s due to all of you. The people who were once strangers seeking out a simple beer are now akin to friends and family. At Blackbird Brewery, we feel privileged to have been welcomed into each of your lives. We know, reciprocally, that our staff have a special place in each of your hearts. There’s no parallel to walking into our taproom with Rishi strumming his guitar in front of our greenery, or Mindi and Lexie dancing behind the bar, or Brad adorned in a shirt that will make you burst into immediate laughter while ordering your drink. It wouldn’t be a true anniversary celebration without sharing this moment with all of you who helped to make Blackbird what it is today.
Time to Party!
To commemorate the milestone, we’re throwing a classic Blackbird bash the way only we know how. On Saturday, April 25, join us at the brewery for our 3rd Anniversary Party, full of live music, captivating entertainment, mouth-watering food, delectable beer, and, of course, all of us together.
The Butcher’s Market Pop Up | 12pm – sellout
Come hungry and enjoy fare from our local The Butcher’s Market. For the day, they’ll be offering smashburgers, hot dogs, and steak & cheese sandwiches until supplies run out.
Magician Michael Douglas | 1pm – 3pm
Michael Douglas brings a sharp mix of sleight-of-hand magic paired with comedic delivery that keeps the crowd leaning in.
Face Painting & Balloon Animals w/ Kathi’s Klowns | 3pm – 5pm
A colorful, whimsical touch is added to the day with Kathi’s Klowns and their playful balloon animals and face painting.
DJ Jamie | 3pm – 6pm
The energy of the day stays high with DJ Jamie spinning party hits. With his perfectly curated set, Jamie raises the rhythm of the celebration. Guaranteed, he’ll turn the party up a notch with dance tracks that draw all.
Peak City Band | 7pm – 10pm
To finish the night with a bang, Peak City Band brings their dynamic performance back to the Blackbird biergarten! Expect incredible rock’n’roll covers brought to you by an energetic and creative group that’s been performing for over 15 years!
Raise a Glass!
A brewery anniversary wouldn’t be complete without the beer, and oh, we’ve brewed up some special ones for the occasion. We brought back some cherished brews in addition to a treat made just for the big day.
False Profits – Hazy DIPA – 8% ABV
We joined forces with our good friends at Edit Beer Co. to brew a collaborative beer for both of our 3-year anniversaries being celebrated this month. Brian from Edit and Ian got together to create a hazy that drinks like an orange mimosa juice bomb. Dry hopped with over 5lbs per barrel, Citra, Mosaic, Idaho, and Anchovy (fishy in name only, not flavor) hops complete the profile. The brewers experimented with a new Berkeley yeast that had Ian gushing with excitement. Berkeley Yeast popularly supplies a liquid London Tropics yeast known for being one of the original thiolized yeast strains. Recently Berkeley converted this to a dry yeast version, allowing us to blend and copitch their yeast with our own house hazy yeast variety. This juicy IPA sets the tone for the day in a big way.
Sunshine Sour – Ambrosia Salad Smoothie – 4.5% ABV
Everyone’s favorite sunny day sipper is returning! This ambrosia salad inspired sour ale was brewed with a glorious amount of pineapple, orange, apricot, and marshmallow. Served in our tulip glass for maximum aroma.
Saison Du Héritage – Farmhouse Style Ale – 5.7% ABV
Saison Du Héritage was brewed out of love for authentic Belgian saisons and named as a dedication to our community. We did our best to pay our respects to the tradition and methods of brewing this style of beer. Our saison utilizes local rustic malts such as spelt and red wheat from Epiphany Craft Malt in Durham and is brewed with a traditional step mash. This beer consists of a blend of two saison strains from Belgium and is full of luscious fruity esters. This beer is also naturally carbonated to heighten the drinking experience and flavor. À votre santé, mon amies!
Yellow Submarine – Hazy IPA – 7.6% ABV
Our anniversary party wouldn’t be complete without everyone’s favorite hazy in attendance. We all live in a yellow submarine, propelling through a sea of Hazy IPAs, and this is a damn good one. We dove all in by double dry hopping with Citra for those looking for juice. Made with a base of oat malt and London yeast for an opaque and creamy brew. This hazy was dry hopped mid-fermentation with Citra Cryo to pick up those lush biotransformation characters from the yeast, then doused a few days later with hand-selected Citra T90s.
General Reminders
As you’re making your last-minute preparations, we want to remind everyone to be patient with the staff during the occasion. We’re expecting a high-volume turnout, and all of you can help us keep the chaos as organized as possible. We’ll have our outside bar tent set up during peak times to help cut down the service lines. Every time you return your glass while ordering your next beer, you make it possible for our staff to serve you faster and reduce the need to leave the bar to bus as often.
Additionally, parking will be extremely limited on a day like Saturday. We highly encourage using rideshare apps and carpooling. It’s important that everyone goes into the day with a plan to safely get home after the festivities, and having a designated driver is the best way to do that. When our parking lot is full, public street parking is available in the neighborhood behind the shopping center as well.
